Faith in mental health

On 19th June 2024, Nishkam Healthcare Trust joined with the National Spirituality and Mental Health forum to host a seminar exploring the role of faith organisations supporting in a mental health crisis. The event highlighted the role of faith and prayer in tackling mental health issues, as well as the critical need for integrated, community-centred approaches.

Mental health is a critical issue for many, and we look forward to working with the Forum to develop partnerships, knowledge and activity in faith and mental health.

Walk with a Doctor

Join a doctor for a walk around Handsworth on Saturday mornings at 9.30am! Walk with a Doctor has been running since 2019, and has proved to be very popular with the local community, giving attendees a chance to speak with a GP about living a healthy life, identifying warning signs and symptoms of serious health conditions, as well as managing common conditions such as Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension & Ischaemic heart disease.

Open to all, this is a great opportunity to get out and about, and find out more about how to live your best healthy life.

Patient & Carers Race Equality Framework

We are in partnership with other community organisations working to improve mental health for racialised communities to foster new referral pathways in order to improve ethnic minority community experiences of mental health care. We are grateful to have received funding for this in 2023, in partnership with: The 1928 Institute, Acacia Family Support, Catalyst 4 Change, Derbyshire Gypsy Liaison Group and Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust. Find out more about the Patient and Carer Race Equality Framework on the NHS England website.

The NHS-run Living Kidney Donation scheme, which is an extension of the Community Investment Scheme, was launched because of the significantly longer times Black, Asian and minority ethnic patients have to wait for a successful match due to a shortage of suitably matched donors.
